Biography

Dr. Yahya R. Kamalipour is professor of mass communication and head of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts at Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana, U.S.A.

Dr. Kamalipour’s areas of research include globalization, media impact, international communication, public relations, stereotyping, and new communication technologies. He has 10 published books, including Bring ‘Em On: Media and Politics in the Iraq War (with L. Artz, 2005); War, Media, and Propaganda: A Global Perspective (with N. Snow, 2004); Globalization and Corporate Media Hegemony (with L. Artz, 2003), Global Communication (2002); Media, Sex, Violence, and Drugs in the Global Village (with K. Rampal, 2001); Religion, Law, and Freedom: A Global Perspective (with J. Thierstein, 2000); Images of the U.S. Around the World: A Multicultural Perspective (1999); and Cultural Diversity and the U.S. Media (with T. Carilli, 1998).

In addition to serving on the advisory and editorial boards of several prominent communication journals, Dr. Kamalipour is the founder and managing editor of a groundbreaking electronic publication, Global Media Journal with editions in Arabic, English, Chinese, Spanish, and other languages. He is also editor (with K. Rampal) of the Global Media Studies Book Series for the State University of New York Press.

Dr. Kamalipour has given presentations in Egypt, Canada, China, Iran, Kenya, Mexico, Slovenia, United States, and has been interviewed by numerous newspapers and broadcast media, including BBC, Reuters, ABC, VOA, RFL/RL, WBEZ-NPR, NileTV, Turkish TV, Iranian TV, Metro Networks, Detroit Free Press, Indianapolis Star, Quill Magazine, Philadelphia Inquire, The Pittsburgh Tribune, The Times, and Post-Tribune. He has taught courses at universities in Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iran, and Oxford (England). His articles have appeared in professional and mainstream publications in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Kamalipour earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication (Radio-TV-Film) from University of Missouri-Columbia, M.A. degree in Mass Media from University of Wisconsin-Superior, and B.A. degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations) from Minnesota State University. He has been at Purdue University Calumet since 1986.

Dr. Yahya R. Kamalipour is professor of mass and international communication and head of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts and Director of Center for Global Studies, Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana, USA.  His areas of interest and research include globalization, media impact, international communication, advertising, cultural diversity, stereotyping, Middle East media, and new communication technologies.  Dr. Kamalipour has 11 published books, including The Media Globe: Trends in International Mass Media (with L. Dr. Kamalipour has been profiled in the Contemporary Authors, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who in America.  He has received significant awards, including the James Hartung Award in International Awareness, Northwest Indiana World Trade Council (USA); Distinguished Scholarship Award in International and Intercultural Communication, National Communication Association (USA); Certificate of Recognition, Tsinghua University (China); the Dr. Notghi’s Award in public relations (Iran), and the Edgar Mills Award for Outstanding Service in Communication from the Communicators of Northwest Indiana (USA). 

Dr. Kamalipour earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication (Radio-TV-Film) from University of Missouri-Columbia, M.A. degree in Mass Media from University of Wisconsin-Superior, and B.A. degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations) from Minnesota State University.  He has been at Purdue University Calumet since 1986.
